The Local Wildlife Does Upset Us

So, when I first brought Aine up here last year, I noticed how the squirrels look different from Texas squirrels. They seemed smaller (everything's bigger in Texas blah blah blah).

And they are.

The predominate squirrel species living in Texas is the Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger). The largest North American squirrel, the Fox Squirrel can grow up to 27 in. long and weigh over 2 lbs. Here in Illinois we have mostly Eastern Gray Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) which don't grow more than a foot in length and weigh 21 oz at their heaviest. So, roughly half the size of Fox Squirrels.

Mr. Bojangles has indicated that neither species has met his approval.
